Howdy CSCC Families,

As we reach the end of the year, we reflect with gratitude on the many wonderful moments we’ve shared. We are especially thankful for our dedicated families and staff who made 2024 such a successful and meaningful year.

This year brought many exciting advancements:

New Curriculum: Teachers embraced a new curriculum, fostering engaging and enriching learning experiences for our children.

Professional Growth: Teachers had the opportunity to attend a state conference, expanding their knowledge and skills.

Classroom Enhancements: All classrooms received new furniture and materials, creating fresh, inviting learning environments.

Outdoor Improvements: New furniture and materials were added to the outside play areas, enhancing opportunities for active outdoor play.

STEAM Lab: We proudly opened our new STEAM lab, providing children with hands-on opportunities to explore science, technology, engineering, art, and math.

Community Partnership: Our partnership with the TAMU Dance Team brought engaging enrichment activities that the children thoroughly enjoyed.  We also partnered with the Brazos Valley Food Bank to establish a food drive.

Center Spotlight:

At CSCC music and movement is highly celebrated.  While these activities bring joy and entertainment, they are vital tools for teaching essential skills and supporting early childhood development.  According to the 2022 TEA PreK Guidelines, music and movement help children develop rhythmic, stability, and locomotor skills, which influence their cognitive, perceptual, and social-emotional growth.

Food Drive

This is the first year, CSCC partnered with the Brazos Valley Food bank. Participating in food drives provides our children opportunities to give back to the community and help fight hunger in the Brazos Valley. We are looking forward to making this opportunity to give back a tradition at CSCC. Thank you for your contributions to the 2024 Brazos Valley Food Drive.

Classroom Project: The Pumpkin Project

In the fall, pumpkins become a familiar sight, whether as festive decorations, in grocery stores, or during visits to pumpkin patches. Inspired by this seasonal theme, Ms. Hannah and Ms. Brittney’s PreK class embarked on an exciting learning journey with their very own class pumpkin!

The project began with the children sharing their ideas and questions about pumpkins. They predicted where pumpkins grow and explored their curiosity by reading books about pumpkins. The class also delved into the life cycle of a pumpkin seed, discussing how a seed grows into a plant and brainstorming what they could do with the seeds once they began to sprout.

As part of their exploration, the children eagerly decorated their class pumpkin for the Pumpkin Decorating Contest, showcasing their creativity and teamwork. They also discussed possible locations in the school garden to plant their pumpkin seeds, thinking ahead to growing their own pumpkins in the future.

Adding a delicious twist to the project, the class held a vote on who likes pumpkin pie, sparking excitement about tasting this holiday favorite. Many children shared their anticipation for trying pumpkin pie during the holidays.

Through this project, the children combined hands-on activities with literacy, science, and teamwork, making learning both meaningful and fun!

Teacher Spotlight

Meet Ms. Sarah, our lead teacher in the Bluebonnets classroom.

Howdy! It’s been great getting to know everyone at CSCC during my first semester—I’ve had a lot of fun! I have over 22 years of experience in early childhood education, both in classrooms and administrative roles, which has given me a well-rounded perspective on the field. I have a bachelor’s degree in child development from Texas Woman’s University and spent 14 years as a child development specialist, which was an unforgettable experience.

Before joining CSCC, I worked as a Texas Rising Star mentor, helping over 50 schools prepare for certification. This role allowed me to teach adults and provided me with valuable insights into the early childhood education field. Growing up in Dallas, I watched my mother care for children in our community, which inspired me to pursue this path myself. Now, as a mother of three, I am deeply passionate about my work and want families to know how important this career is to me.

I believe that patience and compassion are essential for success in teaching. I love working with children and families, watching them grow and develop. Outside of work, I cherish spending time with my kids; we enjoy swimming, watching movies, and hunting for treasures at garage sales together.

The Bluebonnets classroom is for toddlers 12 to 18 months, focusing on developing self-help and fine motor skills. The children engage in art projects that help them practice these skills. They love activities such as painting, play dough, water play, and coloring. Our teachers ensure that learning happens through enjoyable playtime experiences.
