HOWDY FAMILIES AND FRIENDS!
Our staff were recently awarded the gift of time to focus on growth and development. During our professional development time, teaching staff focused on mindset and mindfulness and enjoyed enlightening presentations by Dr. Ben Welch and Dr. Hope Gerde. There was much laughter and togetherness in our fixed-and-growth mindset activity.
Professional Development
Our second day of professional development focused on our student employee staff. Mrs. Erin Hinojosa from the Student Employment Office trained on time management, cross cultural communication skills, and workplace etiquette while Mrs. Flora Harmon, PhD Candidate, and Mrs. Lidia Hawryluk presented on “What am I doing??” A Discussion on How to Get the Most Out of Experiences and Opportunities and All About the Children: Children’s Emotional Health is Dependent on the Quality of Early Adult Interactions. When you engage in meaningful professional development reflections turn into actions. After learning and practicing mindfulness, we recognize mindfulness is equally as, if not more so, crucial for parents as it is for early childhood providers. Check out the parenting article this month by Zero to Three Mindfulness is a Parent Superpower to learn more.
Many of us believe that being a parent means having every answer and being able
to meet every need. The baby is hungry, the toddler scraped his knee, the phone is
ringing, and our partner can’t find a clean shirt. We feel pressured to do four things
at once, all with a kind and calm attitude.
OLE! Texas Quality Seal
Our outdoor learning environment meets the score requirements necessary to be awarded the OLE! Quality Seal. WHOOP! Outdoor Learning Environment (OLE!) Texas is a statewide initiative that promotes healthy, nature-based outdoor spaces at early childcare and education (ECE) programs. A healthy outdoor space helps preschool children be more active while they play, discover, and connect with nature. OLE! Texas is an initiative of the Texas Department of State Health Services, in partnership with other state agencies, universities and organizations across Texas.
Parent Cultural Committee
The BGCC Family Advisory Board (FAB) sets annual continuous improvement goals based on the feedback in the annual family survey. One of those goals this year is to create a parent cultural committee responsible for assisting in the planning of cultural experiences for children and families at BGCC. This committee will meet for the first time in April to begin planning meaningful cultural experiences. We are looking forward to collaborating with parents and cultural groups from campus to enhance the children’s experience!
Walk Across Texas
Walk Across Texas! Youth is an 8-week program designed to help our youngest Texans establish the habit of regular physical activity. The children at BGCC have been busy moving to gain miles in their pursuit to Walk Across Texas! Teachers are making exercise fun like the Whoop classroom having a Rainbow Run in the afternoon!
