Early Childhood Lead Teacher

Khali Shaw has been working in the education field since 2011. She graduated from Brigham Young University with a bachelors in Early Childhood Education in December 2017 and began teaching preschool at Becky Gates Children’s Center in the fall of 2019. She has met amazing families since working in childcare and having the ability to watch their personalities grow. Her favorite part of working at BGCC is the relationships I get to have with coworkers, admin, students, and families.

Ms. Khali enjoys watching the children practice skills and concepts they have learned. She also loves when the young children find their voice and begin to defend themselves or work through their conflicts on their own. Her favorite part of teaching is that every year is unique. Each group of students is different and no two classes are the same which allows her to teach her more things about herself. She sees early childhood as the time when personalities start to solidify and finds it fun to try and predict who a child will be when they are older, based on what you see right now. Reading aloud to the children and seeing the children actively engage in the story is one of her favorite activities. Her favorite books to share with the children are the ones whose illustrations add another dimension to the story like “The Adventures of Beekle The Unimaginary Friend” by Dan Santat and “This is Not My Hat” by Jon Klassen. Dr. Seuss books will also be found in her library because of the meter and rhyme and whimsicality in his writing.

“My kindergarten teacher actually inspired me to be a teacher. We continue to stay in touch and periodically ask her for advice. I remember loving school and being excited to go each day. Then, after I left kindergarten and got older, I would periodically go to her class to read stories to her kindergartners. Since then, I have always known I wanted to work with children and be a teacher to do exactly what my kindergarten teacher did for me.
