HOWDY FAMILIES AND FRIENDS!

In March, we celebrated National Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) Week. The Becky Gates Children’s Center remains committed to providing the highest quality meals, nutritional education and physical development for our children. Research proves that good nutrition in young children not only contributes to their physical growth, but to their intellectual and emotional development as well. Children who participate in the CACFP have the opportunity to develop positive eating habits that will lead to a lifetime of good eating habits and good health. BGCC menus received the highest honor of Gold level Healthier CACFP Recognition Award in 2018 commending our outstanding achievement and the work being done to ensure a healthier future for the great state of Texas. This year we wanted to celebrate our AMAZING cook Edwinna and her kitchen crew (TAMU nutrition students) for their commitment to the CACFP and to the health and well-being of all the children at BGCC.

In April, we celebrate the Week of the Young Child recognizing early learning, young children, their teachers, and families!

Week of the Young Child

At the same time, the cost of one year of child care for an infant in Texas averages $9,324 and $7,062 for a four–year old. In metropolitan areas the average annual cost is $12,052 for a four-year old.

AND WHEREAS, young children need Developmentally appropriate, accessible, and available early care and education settings.

AND WHEREAS, working families need Sufficient high–quality child care spaces beginning at birth to be available in the community.

AND WHEREAS, early childhood educators need Ability to earn a family–sustaining wage that is commensurate with the required education and skills they bring to the complex and valuable work they do.

THEREFORE, be it resolved that the Becky Gates Children’s Center does hereby proclaim April 2-8 as the Week of the Young Child, and does hereby recognize that when our society invests in educators, we also invest in children and families.

There’s no Book Fair like a Scholastic Book Fair!

It starts with a choice: What do I want to read? And since being empowered to choose their own books is a milestone opportunity to identify and express their own voice, kids also leave the Book Fair as bolder, prouder, and stronger individuals.

Help us raise readers by purchasing books at our Book Fair during the Week of the Young Child, April 3-7! Every book you purchase puts books directly into our classrooms. If you are unable to stop by our Book Fair and would like to support the Becky Gates Children’s Center click HERE to donate to the Becky Gates Children’s Center Director’s Discretionary Fund.
