Center Spotlight: Mrs. Bertha

This month we thought it was perfect timing to spotlight our custodial staff member, Mrs. Bertha. Mrs. Bertha is coming up on her one year mark of joining us at Becky Gates Children’s Center. Mrs. Bertha is at the center every day cleaning the classrooms, offices, and hallways.

Mrs. Bertha grew up in Monterrey Mexico and moved to San Antonio when she was 18. She has two children, a daughter Mary and son Ariel. Mrs. Bertha moved to College Station to be with her daughter while her son is currently serving in the Army. In addition to her loving children, she also has 12 grandchildren whom she adores. Besides spending time with her grandkids outside of work, Mrs. Bertha enjoys gardening. “I want to have the prettiest yard in my neighborhood” Mrs. Bertha says. She spends her weekends watering her flowers and growing new plants in her garden.

When asked what was her favorite thing about working at Becky Gates Children’s Center, she responded “the kids.” She enjoys walking through the hallways everyday and hearing the kids tell her hello. Specifically, she always makes an effort to find the Bumblebee class while they are on their buggie walk. The bumblebees love talking to Mrs. Bertha as they take their daily walk outside to the playground. “They make me happy everyday.”

More than anything, Mrs. Bertha wants the parents and families at BGCC to know that she is working hard to make sure “the kids are in a safe and clean environment.”

We are extremely thankful for all that Mrs. Bertha does and love having her as a part of the Becky Gates Children’s Center family!
