Howdy Ms. Alexia!

Ms. Alexia recently started a new position as Music Teacher at the beginning of this Spring semester. She has already been fostering an appreciation of music with the children through music classes on Tuesday and Thursday.

ABOUT MS. ALEXIA

Ms. Alexia is a student at Texas A&M and her major is Performance Studies. When she graduates she plans on becoming an Ethnomusicologist and working in the classroom.

She has done music ever since she was 10 years old. She played in her school’s orchestra all the way into high school. Ms. Alexia has done theatre, musicals, and has learned instruments on her own.

Ms. Alexa recalls her own preschool’s music activities, gaining exposure and playing different instruments in her music classes every week. In March, Becky Gates Children’s Center will be sending Ms. Alexia to be Music Together certified.

MUSIC EDUCATION

According to Ms. Alexia, “Music is there to support the students’ social, physical and cognitive development. It helps the body work with the mind through the dancing and singing. Through the songs the kids sing with me, their creativity is expanding as they pitch in new ideas for the moves we should do, or the beat they should make to the song, or what creative lyrics and sounds we can put into the songs.”

Ms. Alexia will be singing, dancing, and playing instruments with the students. She will bring a few of her own instruments to expose them to different sounds and kinds of music. Ms. Alexia will also bring in performance groups from the A&M campus to the students, so they can have more exposure beyond of what she can give them.
