This month we are highlighting our amazing kitchen staff! They are such a vital part of our team and provide the students and staff with nutritious and tasty meals everyday!

Mrs. Edwinna is from Dallas Texas and is our head cook at the center. She has worked at Becky Gates Children’s Center for over 7 years. Her favorite meal to cook is the Cajun Red Beans and Rice. Make sure you check out the recipe in the newsletter this month! When asked her favorite thing about working at the center, she quickly responded “the people and the kids!”

Working alongside Mrs. Edwinna in the kitchen are Kirby and Maria. Kirby is from The Woodlands and Maria is from El Paso. Both are current nutrition majors at A&M and will graduate in December. The girls have both been working in the kitchen for over 5 months and assist Mrs. Edwinna daily in preparing some amazing meals. They each shared their favorite meals to prepare. Maria enjoys making the lentil soup, while Kirby’s favorite is the turkey noodle soup. The two also shared the same reason for why they enjoy working at the center, “the people here feel like a family.” They both love that being with such a tight knit group everyday makes work feel like fun!

We love having these amazing cooks at the center. Their unique recipes put a smile on our student’s faces daily. It is easy to make a “happy plate” with this group in the kitchen!
