Center Spotlight: Susie Burke ’22

For the month of March, our center spotlight shines on our resource auditor, Susie Burke. Susie has been working in our MP building cleaning, organizing, and auditing our books and resources. Her main goal is organizing all of our resources and classroom tools so they are easier to find for our teachers. We are so thankful to have Susie as a part of our BGCC family and want to highlight all her hard work.

Susie is a senior Middle Education major from Deer Park Texas. She is also pursuing a minor in History, is in the “Early Start Program” to get her Masters in Education in Curriculum and Instruction, and is completing certification to be a Reading Specialist.

“I would love to get certified EC-12 and teach to our kiddos that are long-term in hospitals that cannot make it to in-person classes. I had 3 friends in Jr high and high school that were restrained from coming to school because they had something health-wise preventing them from being around too many people. They always talked about how they loved the teachers that came in and spent time with them because they could not see me and my friends unless via facetime. I would like to be that for someone. Open their small room to an entire world of reading, history, and learning.”

Susie’s favorite part about working at BGCC is the “community of teachers.” “I always feels supported and loved by the staff. Becky Gates really has a family mentality and I love it so much.”

We are so grateful for all the amazing work Susie has accomplished while working here. Because of her hard work, our teachers can easily find the resources they need for their lessons, providing our students with the materials they need to learn and grow.
